Hattiloo is continually raising funds to ensure the longevity of Memphis' only Black repertory theatre. But each year, we aim to host one large, signature fundraising event that simultaneously furthers our mission, honors our patrons, and secures our fiscal health for the coming season. This year, we will hold a grand benefit and gala called Step into Time.
STEP INTO TIME
Thursday, September 29, 2011
6p - 9 p.m.
Hattiloo Theatre celebrates our mission of exploring history by inviting you to step into another era at our gala benefit, Step Into Time. This year we'll explore the birth of the blues! In the early part of the 20th Century, W.C. Handy birthed the blues in Memphis and was soon electrifying audiences in clubs all over the city. Influenced by the spirituals, work songs and ballads, this vibrant new music genre was birthed by pioneering musicians who confronted life with strength, attitude and raucous song. Join us at Hattiloo Theatre's biggest party of the year to experience a look back at the early years of this art form, its continuing influence on Memphis' music scene and its unique ability to lift our spirits. It will be an evening to remember!
